"Anyone taking Wellbutrin???"

Hello all...it's time for yet another antidepressant discussion!

I'm thinking about taking Wellbutrin...I have heard that it is the "skinny happy horny" drug. Anyone care to confirm or dispute that? I think it may be the drug for me (OB/GYN approves).

Thanks y'all.

I am taking a combo of wellbutrin and celexa. Wellbutrin does make me horny, which is good because celexa has the opposite effect. I started out on just celexa, which had the unfortunate effect of inhibiting orgasm and damping libido. I switched to just wellbutrin, but it didn't work as well on my symptoms. Wellbutrin works on dopamine (sp?), and celexa works on seratonin. I apparently need the seratonin effect, but not everyone does. I'm now on 15 mg of celexa and 150 of wellbutrin a day, and my doc has given me license to tweak the doses around a bit to see what works best. The negative side effects of wellbutrin I experienced on a higher dose are insomnia, headaches, nausea and nightmares. I did NOT get skinny.

Also, not that law abiding citizens such as we care about such things, but wellbutrin combined with marijuana can cause psychotic behavior. Talk about harshing your buzz!

Also, the pharmacy lable for Wellbutrin says don't drink alcohol, but my doctor said that I can drink in moderation, just be aware that it might increase drowsyness, so don't drive or operate heavy machinery.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Peace
Portia

   Portia --
I'm not on WEllbutrin, but my sweetie is - and he still has a bit of a weed habit (after all these years -- I find it very bizarre!) -- can you refer me to documentation on the interactions between wellbutrin and pot??
More ammo to get him to quit the weed thing!!!

I haven't but two friends have to quit smoking. Both confirmed the hyperhornyhappy thing. Both lost a ton of weight (like 30 - 40lbs). One stopped after quitting because she didn't feel like herself and was basically okay besides wanting to quit smoking.

The other stayed on and didn't really quit smoking. As a loved one, i'd day she was REALLY obnoxious and hyper for the first year. There were times I'd have rather hung around with 12 year olds than her. Now she's getting back to normal or else I've just gotten used to it or her prescription ran out and she didn't tell me.

Just my observer's report.

I was on Wellbutrin, but needed a boost. (I did not lose weight or get horny). So my doc prescribed Celexa added with the Wellbutrin and I was on it quite awhile. Then I became super bitchy, anxious, irritable ( It wasn't from my periods, I had a hysterectomy 8 years ago, I'm 39 now). I read an article in a dr. column with my exact symptoms and it was due to the Wellbutrin. So I went off it about 6 months ago and I'm just taking Celexa now and doing better. Get on the net and look up as much info as you can. I'm sure there will be lots of pro's and con's.

The side effects were so harsh that I didn't make it past four weeks on WB. The first week was the worst. Do you experience anxiety at all? If you do you may want to rethink taking WB because it is known to increase anxiety. IT WAS HORRIFIC FOR ME!! I thought that my heart was litterally going to explode out of my chest for three days straight. After that passed I just felt ill, really ill. SEs are to be somewhat expected with most ADs and it is reccommended that you stick through them but when my SEs with WellBuddy didn't pass within three weeks I threw in the towel. Be sure to ramp up in dosage because it will help you to experience fewer SEs.

Miztree has been taking WB with great success for quite awhile with very few if any SEs.

You will just have to try it to see.

   Hi Janene:

Hope you are well. To answer your question, WB effects everyone differently. You need to give it a try and measure your response to know how it effects you. Thus far people in this thread have discussed it like a "drug" and I have friends who have felt the same -- "doesn't this have street value?" but I'm currently on the drug and have felt ZERO effects from it. Why? My friends used it for smoking, I used it for depression -- that's my guess. I have felt nothing except maybe that I'm not chronically tired but that's it. Biochemistry of depression and anxiety is diffentfor everyone -- take a baseline and see how it works for you (for a minimum of 2 months).

Good luck,
J

One of the listed side effects is euphoria, which I experienced at first, but it went away after a week or so. It really rocked while it lasted.

I am currently on prozac and wellbutrin. Doesn't seem to be the skinnyhappyhorny drug for me! In a sense the skinny part would be VERY nice to experience! I for one seem to be gaining weight! However, since I am taking it for depression caused by a very disturbing breakup perhaps it is ok that I am not experiencing the horny aspect! LOL...I guess if I were you research the drug as well as you can and ask you doc any questions, he/she should be able to find any information you can not.

I had switched from Zoloft to Wellbutrin. The nice thing about Wellbutrin is when you are ready to stop taking it you can stop cold turkey instead of tapering as with other antidepressants. Also, there are no sexual side effects with this drug.
Good luck with your choice!

Did you stop taking it cold turkey? I was told that you couldn't stop taking it cold turkey. I really want to stop taking it because it hasn't done a thing for me. Well, I did cut my smoking in half. I started taking it because I can't sleep through the night because of fibromyalgia. It is supposed to adjust the seritonin. It hasn't helped. It doesn't give me energy during the day at all. I lack energy and have chronic fatigue type symptoms. I can't hardly stay awake whenever I sit down. I have extremely little sexual desire and I can't acheive climax at all. It sucks.

By the way. I suffered from severe depression in the past. To the point that I just went through the motions each day but I felt seperate from the world. Nothing felt real or right. After years I finally found a doctor who told me that my thyroid was slightly off. Some doctors don't realize that it doesn't take much to cause the depression. I'm now on synthroid. It saved my life.

I tried it for about 4 months...worked my way up to 150mg 3x per day. I originally took it for chronic fatigue syndrome and depression. It didn't make me horny, but it completely curbed my appetite and I lost about 10 lbs (although I've already gained back 5). It initially did give me some energy and alertness, but I think it actually made me more anxious and prone to crying bouts. I am now on 25 mg of Nortriptyline (Pamelor) which is a tri-cyclic anti-depressant. It helps my sleep quality, gives me more energy, and has relieved some depression...unfortunately it doesn't seem to curb appetite.

I took it for 6 weeks to stop smoking-
Only side effects i experienced were a disconnected feelingin the beginning. I had to time the dosing so i wasn't driving to or from work for the first 2 to 3 weeks. I know my doctor also gave me xanex because he was concerned that i would feel the anxiety thing since i'm not "clinically" depressed. I guess he called that one wrong.
I actually felt really happy on it once my body adjusted.

speaking of which i have a new rx for it since i started smoking again......really should go get it filled.

I've been using it for a year.
Already was skinny and horny.
Now happier. Hornier.
Helped a lot with depression.
Lost appetite for a month - now it's back.
Dry mouth for a few weeks - now not a problem.

Good Luck!!

I agree. Educate yourself. And don't freak out and decide all medications are poisons. If I didn't take Synthroid every day I'd feel like crap. If my sweetie didn't take Wellbutrin, he'd be unbearable. Help is there for people who need it, and there's no shame in needing it. Just be careful, of course, and pay attention to how you feel with any medication.
It's not fair to indict all medicines because some are bad.

I been taking it for a few months and I have to say I'm like an 18 year old again! I'm 38 (male) and this stuff made me go from wanting sex maybe 3-4 times a week to 3-4 times a day. I can also cum multiple times in one session and literally go for as long as I want. My GF has to tell me when to stop way before my body gives out. This is one side effect I'm liking! I have become a litteral sex machine

I originally started taking it to quit smoking, but I felt so good while on it I told my doc I wanted to keep taking it and he increased the dose from 150mg to 300mg per day and thats when the sexual effect really became noticable. At first I though I just had more energy and stamina from quitting smoking, but after upping the dose I knew something else was up (no pun intended LOL) All I can say is I feel friggin great all the time and I love the side effect

With Wellbutrin who needs viagra????

I have also lost weight. Most people gain weight when they quit smoking, but I lost 15 pounds so far and look really good. I never want to stop taking it! I have never felt more alive. I love it
